In Amos 4 comes the warning especially to the rich to stop oppressing the poor and repent. "Hear this word O cows of Bashan on Mount Samaria, you women who oppress the poor and crush the needy... you boast about your sacrifices, for this is what you love to do... but you have not returned to me... I tried to bring you back with rainfall or lack of it, but this didn't work either... I tried mildew, blight and locusts but this didn't function either... I sent plagues but they didn't bring you back... you were like a burning stick snatched from the fire but to no avail... therefore prepare to meet your God O Israel!"
