In Colossians 2 Paul emphasizes that Christians have all they need in Christ and warns them not to be deceived by teachings that add human philosophy, religious rules, or extra spiritual practices to the gospel. Paul expresses his concern for the churches at Colosse and Laodicea that they not be "deceived by fine-sounding arguments... for I am with you in spirit and delight to see how firm your faith is in Christ". He then calls on believers to "be rooted and built up in Christ... avoiding hollow and deceptive philosophy... because in Christ is the fulness of the deity in bodily form... so you have fulness in Christ... having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through faith... for you were dead in sin but God made you alive in Christ... having disarmed powers and authorities triumphing over them by the cross... so don't let anyone judge you about what you eat or drink, or about sabbaths or new moons... because reality is in Christ... so don't get taken in by false humility or angel worshippers... so don't return to the basic principles and rules... which are based on human commands and teachings".
