Paul now recalls his ministry in Thessalonica which "never used flattery or a mask... we were not looking for praise from men... and we were gentle with you like a mother caring for little children... and we were delighted to share our lives with you and the gospel of Christ... as we encouraged you, comforted you and urged you to live lives worthy of God... and we thank God that you received the word of God which is at work in you who believe... and you suffered from your own countrymen the same things the churches suffered from the Jews... and we made every effort to see you... but Satan stopped us... however rest assured that you are our hope, joy and crown in which we will glory in the presence of the Lord".
