1 Thessalonians 5 (résumé): Final words

In the last chapter of 1 Thessalonians Paul warns the church that the return of the Lord "will come like a thief in the night... so there's no fixing dates or times... but let us be alert and self-controlled... because people sleep at night but we belong to the day... so put on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet... and we will receive salvation through the Lord... so keep building one another up with this hope... and respect those who work hard among you... hold them in the highest regard in love... and don't pay back wrong for wrong but be patient with everyone... be joyful always and pray continually... and give thanks under all circumstances... don't put out the Spirit's fire... don't treat prophecies with contempt but test everything... hold on to the good and avoid the evil... and may God sanctify you through and through... God is faithful and he will do it... and the grace of Jesus be with you".
