Jeremiah 12 (résumé): Jeremiah's question

Jeremiah 12 commences with a question: "Why does the way of the wicked prosper?" He goes on saying "they grow and bear fruit but God is on their lips but far from their hearts". God doesn't give a direct answer to the question, but challenges him to endure so that he will be able "to compete with horses". God then bemoans the state of Judah saying: "My inheritance has become to me like a lion in the forest. She roars at me so I hate her... they will turn my pleasant field into a desolate wasteland... because there is no-one who cares... so the sword of the Lord will devour everything... and they will sow wheat but reap thorns." But God finally promises eventual restoration if his people repent. "After I uproot them, I will again have compassion and will bring each of them back to his own inheritance and country".
